The overview effect is a cognitive shift in awareness reported by some astronauts during spaceflight, often while viewing the Earth from outer space. The effect may also invoke a sense of transcendence and connection with humanity as a whole, from which national borders appear petty.

Der Overview-Effekt ist ein kognitiver Bewusstseinswandel, von dem einige Astronauten während des Raumflugs berichten, häufig beim Blick auf die Erde aus dem Weltraum. Dieser Effekt kann auch ein Gefühl der Transzendenz und der Verbundenheit mit der Menschheit als Ganzes hervorrufen, gegen das die nationalen Grenzen unbedeutend erscheinen.
