Rasp is a non-conventional non-clipping distortion-like plug-in effect. It will make any track sound rough, gritty, or noisy. Sounds range from subtle to extreme.
Subtle roughness is sometimes great way to add character to vocals and drums. Many uses also exist for settings that produce higher levels of noise. These include:

- creating pad sounds.
