FSUMpeg is a real-time Lossy compression plugin that emulates low quality audio codecs, poor quality noise reduction algorithms, glitched/broken audio transmission etc.
It is inspired by the strange artifacts and responsiveness of extremely compressed audio codecs. Similar to uploading a video to youtube, downloading it then reuploading, over and over until the quality gets reduced to a glitchy blur. The core of FSUMpeg is ELENA’s spectral modules, which are used to break down incoming signal into a spectrogram, to which various filters are applied. FSUMmpeg features two peak-following or static ring modulators – one pre-FFT and one post-FFT, a bitcrusher and custom waveshaping to achieve extremely lofi bizarre sounds. It has useful bass enhancement knobs and comes in a mono or stereo version.
