basic 65

basic 65 is a monophonic synth, inspired by the classic 80s home computer, the Commodore 64 and its legendary SID chip. Building on the waveforms and signal path of this famous chip, basic 65 adds further features and options to take things a step further.

The double arpeggiator allows complex versions of that retro 8-bit game sound and the modulation options inspire experimentation via the mod envelope and 2 comprehensive LFOs. Pulse width modulation, ring modulation and oscillator detune/sync are key ingredients in the signature sound. Throw in some pitch drift, bit drift, a sprinkle of dirt and randomisation and you have a wide range of lofi, chiptune, retro-tastic sounds at your disposal.

This version is the update to the popular basic 64, redesigned from scratch, with many improvements, new features and all new presets. basic 65 was co-developed with sink, who also made the amazing presets.

It will recreate the incoming audio into an approximation of itself using a waveform-morphing audio oscillator. Depending on the volume and pitch of the audio, it will gate, stutter and morph the output in sync with your host tempo

boost is a dual-band parallel compression effect that enhances your audio by boosting the lows and highs whilst still letting some of the original signal through to get a nice blend.

Increase the gain to get more compression, then tweak the low and high band to suit the sound you want. The boost knob increases the mix of compressed audio with the dry signal.

    Dual band stereo compressors for low and high frequencies.
    Parallel compression mixes dry audio with compressed audio to preserve transients.
    Gain reduction indicators so you can see when compressors are working.

ClipStar

ClipStar is a soft clipper effect plugin, designed to prevent peaks in a subtler way than hard clipping, increase loudness and add pleasing saturation.

Where ClipStar differs from other clippers is that it can leave the low frequencies untouched, where distortion is more evident, and allow a greater boost in gain without noticeably degrading the signal. You can use ClipStar for peak protection, for loudness gain or for sympathetic distortion depending on your mood and the phase of the moon.

It demonstrates the compressor algorithms of its big brothers, bathtub and sidearm while keeping the interface simple for quickly dialling in some common settings. D2 can be heavy or subtle, razor quick or gentle, clean or dirty and is happy as an insert or buss compressor.

Dirty Harry

Dirty Harry is an unashamedly DIY lofi synth based on the samples of two homemade, lofi noisemakers, the Atari Punk Console and the BugBrand WOM.

Dirty Harry offers 20 unique waveforms in all their mono/monophonic glory. For extra grit the oscillators can be sync‟d or ring modulated. Fidelity can be lowered further still with reduction in sample quality, distortion and a unique „bad contact‟ emulation. 2 tempo sync LFOs allow modulation of filter, pitch and contact, with one LFO modulating the depth and frequency of the other. There are envelopes for volume, pitch and filter, with different contours and pitch options. Throw in an arpeggiator, pitch drift and portamento and you can see that whilst it may be lofi in sound, it doesn't lack for sound design features.

jellyfish is a 4 oscillator synth with multiple modulation methods between the oscillators and of their various parameters which guarantees plenty of movement in the sound.

This is great for evolving pads, wobbly bass, vibrant leads or just plain strangeness. Using addition, subtraction, phase difference, ring modulation or phase distortion, the oscillators can modulate each other to get a wide variety of sounds. 2 tempo-sync LFOs and an ADSR envelope can all modulate this inter-osc modulation, as well as pitch, filter cut-off and each other. A pair of resonant filters and a tempo-sync delay complete the deal.

Loophole

loophole is a midi-triggered loop sampler, which allows you play sections of up to 4 different loops using midi notes to control which section of which loop plays.

This can be a great way to mash up 4 different loop styles or add quick variations on 4 similar loops. As well as having full control of which sections to play, you can also trigger random sections too.

You can load any 4 loops and sync them to host tempo, then using midi notes you can play the loops, switching between loops, playing several loops and defining which sections play. You also get a visual display of the loops, the play position and which sections are being played. The multi-out version lets you apply further effects processing to each loop separately. Loophole also has a volume envelope per loop to declick or fade in/out.

The step sequencer defines the probability that any single random effect will be triggered on that step. The weighting defines the probability for each effect that it will be the one that is triggered.

metamorph is a waveform morphing synth with a bunch of envelopes, LFOs and onboard effects to guarantee movement on even the most vanilla note.

Each oscillator can morph through a selection of waveforms in tempo sync or modulated by an envelope. It can also step through the waveforms, make each cycle a new waveform or even just stick with one waveform if you want. Throw in pitch modulation, 5 envelopes, 2 LFO's, a ring mod / 3rd audio osc, variable state filter, distortion, delay and an arpeggiator and that held note will never sound the same again.

Moot is a flexible audio mute plugin with a number of additional features.

The aim is to have a mute switch (Hit Me) that can be assigned to a single midi keyboard key and act in 3 ways.

    as a latch (one press mute, release stays muted, next press unmute, release stays unmuted)
    in default mode (hold down to mute, release to play audio)
    in invert mode (hold down to play audio, release to mute)

The minimum and maximum volume can be set so that as well as muting, moot can act as a switch between a high and low volume In addition there is an audio gate to chop the audio and a smooth control to add a small attack/decay between changes

pfilter creates a steppy, gated effect, but using filter cut-off instead of volume to give a wider range of possibilities.

QB-3 is a vintage 3 band EQ plug-in, with its own unique colouring and a few tricks up its sleeve.

For each band you can adjust the centre frequency and gain. For the low and high shelving bands you can adjust the steepness of the slope, whilst for the mid peaking band you can adjust the bandwidth. This allows a range of sounds from steep, sharp cuts to smooth and gentle boosts. But it’s not a super clean and transparent plug-in. QB-3 features a pleasing combination of harmonics, saturation and low level noise to bring a subtle mojo to your sound. You also have the option to switch on a 40Hz cut to boost your low frequency headroom and a limiter to curb any peaks.

Scylla is a multi-layered synthesizer capable of producing synthesized audio combined with playback of custom samples and waveforms.

Scylla includes three different types of oscillators that can be modified to a wide variety of styles. Three built-in samplers can accommodate .wav audio samples of which can be modified through additional settings. Scylla also includes a powerful combination of LFO, ADSR and filter envelopes, Ring-Modulation, and Unison. What sets Scylla apart from other synthesizers is its unique Granular capabilities, both globally, and locally at the sample level.

The idea behind Scylla is to have an instrument capable of synthesizing audio through means of subtractive synthesis combined with sample-playback, ring-modulation, and granular synthesis. truc2 is a multi-effect plug-in with 4 different effect modules and two automated XY pads to modulate their levels and parameters.

It is designed to add variation and movement, anywhere along the scale of subtle to overkill and is suitable for any material. The 4 effect modules are DIRT, GRAIN, RING and DELAY.
