SOME THOUGHTS:
Not a Roland TR-808 replica, as it is not a drum machine, just the main panel has 8 pads and 8 knobs, as my Akai LPD8 controller - inspired by this.
Now just inserted the text from the attached User Manual as I'm too lazy...:
"The goal was to make a very easily and quickly usable synthesizer with as few controls as I could imagine, but be as flexible as the limited number of controls allows.
My Akai LPD8 inspired to make a similar interface with direct coupled controls to the essential parameters.
(the LPD8 has 4 setting banks, here just wanted to use 1 to avoid the switching between the banks and make it more understandable)
As many MIDI controllers have similar controls, hopefully will be usable on other devices too.
The Octave pads work as triggers (I programmed these Akai pads to Momentary mode in the editor), while the switch pads send cc values, so probably can be replaced by sliders (0 – Off, any higher value – ON), if your controller has only that.
If any of the above is missing from your controller, just use the soft ones on the GUI.
At me the MIDI learn and forget functions worked well, hopefully at you too (right click menu on the controls)
The additional parameters are tuned to give a good starting point and you can create many presets without opening the 2nd panel and touching them. But when more control or fine tuning needed, just use them (click on the MORE... button/switch)."
Shortly:
- 7 wavetable oscs in unison mode with continuous wave morphing (tri>saw>square>pulse) and blending between 72 further waves (the tri saw-square waves are repeated...)
(with the GUI knobs - the controller knobs used to have only 128 fix values because of the 7 bit resolution...)
- 2 sub oscs with morphable wave (tri>saw>square>pulse)
- 1 main LFO to vibrato or cutoff with morphable wave (tri>saw>square>pulse)
- the LFO / Sub wave display switches to that what you adjust
- 2 hidden sine oscs in the Chorus and Reverb
- 2 envelopes (AD to filter and AR to amp) in default, but sustains can be adjusted to get ADSRs
- stereo 2 pole LP filter with env and LFO mod
- Chorus/Flanger, dual Delay and Reverb effects
- midi learn and forget for the controls
- random / init and GUI size buttons / selector
- compact size for general use, switchable full size to sound design
Added 32 so-so presets, a pdf manual, an empty bank and my init preset file in fxb/fxp and txt (the latter for the GUI preset manager).
The 3rd picture shows my setting for the Akai LPD8 controller, if helps.
Try it and make your own sounds if it works in your system! ?
Available for free in 32 & 64 bit windows VST2 formats.
FURTHER INFO:
The Hold button keeps the last pressed note - good for sound design.
Double click sets the knobs to default value.
Right click on a knob opens the MIDI forget/learn menu.
As always: if doesn't work in your system, just delete it - there are much better ones from others...
