Atem was only available on import when cult UK broadcaster John Peel named it his Album of the Year.
Mail-order supplier Virgin were flooded with orders - prompting owner Richard Branson to invest some of the millions he'd made from Tubular Bells in signing TD (and many other German bands) to his label.
Phaedra and its companion-piece Rubycon remain masterpieces, with a blend of Moog and Mellotron that sound fresh and original even after forty-five years.

-----------------

At that time I still had personal contact to the band, because Peter Baumann was the lover of a good friend from childhood.

For me the Froese/Franke/Baumann lineup was the classic TD.
Apart from that period, I think many of the band-members did better things elsewhere or solo - including original members Conrad Schnitzler, Klaus Schultze and Froese himself.
And when you look at the list of musicians they worked with - let alone those they simply inspired/influenced - it's impossible to imagine what today's music would be like if they had never existed.
