Dexed - FM Plugin Synth



Dexed is a multi platform, multi format plugin synth that is closely modeled on the Yamaha DX7. Under the hood it uses music-synthesizer-for-android for the synth engine and JUCE as a plugin wrapper.

The goal of this project is to be a tool/companion for the original DX7. Sound engine with 'float' value parameters, different waveform à la TX81z would be great but anything that goes beyond the DX7 should and will be a fork of this project. This is to keep the compatiblity with the original machine.

Dexed is licensed on the GPL v2. The msfa component (acronym for music synthesizer for android, see msfa in the source folder) stays on the Apache 2.0 license to able to collaborate between projects.
Features

    Multi platform (OS X, Windows, Linux) and multi format (VST, AU and others that I don't use); by using JUCE
    The sound engine music-synthesizer-for-android is closely modeled on the original DX7 characteristics
    144 DAW automatable DX7 parameters available from one single panel
    Fully supports DX7 input and output Sysex messages; including controller change. This means that you can use this with a native DX7/TX7 as a patch editor
    Each operator have a realtime VU meter to know wich one is active
    Can load/save any DX7/TX7 sysex programs. It is also possible to save a single program into a different sysex file.

This plugin is crazy good!!  Grins  Ganz gut, bestimmt!  O0

Totally nails the DX7 sound. When I do an A/B with my TX802, 98% of all sounds are totally spot on, and sometimes the plugin sounds even better than the original! (slightly more "juicy").

Also has a great GUI, with very handy global controls (not available on the original).

It's still being worked on, it appears. But what more could we want?

Well, if anything, it might be great to have an easy master-tune. That way, by combining several instances of Dexed together, you could easily get a TX816 / TX802 emulation, or even several of them, detuning each instance for super fat sounds!!  Smile

    New UI by AZur Studio
    You can now copy/paste the operator/envelopes values by using the right-click mouse button on the operator
    Fixed some of mono mode ticks on lower frequencies
    SynprezFM preset are now in a submenu

Dexed to v0.9.2

Changes in v0.9.2:

- Mark I engine is now the default engine.
- Added operator mute switch.
- Added Tune (MASTER TUNE ADJ) knob.
- Correct feedback implementation for Algo 4 and 6.
- Single click program select.
- Fix SysEx issue with wrong machine ID.
- Fix for parameter hosts values. thanks @Sentinel77.

Just like to point out that this feature now makes it possible to properly create stacked patches as is possible on the DX1/5/802/816 versions. Awesome!  Clap

Here's a nice example of how that works out on a TX816 (as posted earlier here):

Version 0.9.4 (Windows, Max, Linux) is on KVR:
  • Standalone application version of Dexed.
  • Midi learn support for MIDI CC messages.
  • More accurate detune for operators.
  • More accurate EG envelopes. thanks @jeremybernstein
  • Pitchbend now listen to any channels.
  • Fixed 'clicking' in mono mode.
  • Fixed implementation for MIDI CC 0x78 and 0x7B (All Sound Off / All Notes Off).
